Atmel's AT91 CD-ROM on-line, containing all available data for Atmel's ARM products. Also presents a forum dedicated AT91 ARM based products from third party companies.

A 'must-add' for your favourites list, especially if writing serial comms software. Also has reference tables for keyboard scan codes, unicode characters and HTML special characters.

AVR Beginners is aimed at the novice AVR user, and gives a good introduction to AVR assembler.

AVR Freaks is a well-respected and comprehensive repository of all things AVR. Registration is required to access some areas of the site, but this is well worth it for the variety of code examples and projects that are available. Highly recommended.

An on-line magazine describing itself as "Practical, hands-on applications and solutions for embedded-control designers". Lots of useful designs and articles, in particular the AVR 2004 Design Competition is well worth exploring.

Embedded.com is an on-line journal for the embedded engineer. Has a useful archive of articles on the 'Technical Insights' page.

FreeRTOS is a portable, open source, mini Real Time Kernel with ports for a number of microcontrollers, including AVR

IAR Systems supply compilers and software support tools for a wide range of microprocessors, including the C51, AVR and ARM. The IAR Embedded Workbench is our preferred compiler for AVR and ARM.

Keil Software also supply compilers and software support tools for a wide range of microprocessors, but are perhaps best known for their C51 product. We can recommend Hitex as UK distributors for Keil, and also as suppliers of various hardware emulation tools.

MSC (UK) are the premier supplier of Atmel products in the UK, as well as supplying a range of complementary semiconductor, LCD, connector and electromechanical products from a range manufacturers. Technical support from MSC is second to none, and a reliable and friendly commercial support team will ensure your product supply needs are expertly managed. MSC is a pan-European company and is able to support customers across the continent.

PCB Pool from Beta Layout, fast and low cost PCB prototypes from Ireland.

Programmer's Heaven Contains tutorials, source code and applications for a variety of programming languages and platforms. Not specifically aimed at embedded systems, but containing much useful information nonetheless.

Quality Embedded Software Techniques - a series of informative white papers for serious programmers.

SysInternals Freeware is the home of a number of essential PC utility programs, including Portmon for monitoring serial port activity, and TCPView/TDImon for examining TCP and UDP connections.

Thesycon are a German company responsible for the 'USBIO' generic USB driver package, which we have succesfully adapted for use with Atmel C51 based USB microcontrollers. USBIO is distributed in the UK by Hitex.

Tiny Open Firmware is a freeware implementation of the Forth programming language for various micros, including 8051 and AVR.

uIP is an open source TCP/IP project for small microprocessors. Ported to various micros, including 8051 and AVR.
