ASCII Tables

A 'must-add' for your favourites list, especially if writing serial comms software. Also has reference tables for keyboard scan codes, unicode characters and HTML special characters.

AVR Beginners
AVR Beginners.net

AVR Beginners is aimed at the novice AVR user, and gives a good introduction to AVR assembler.

AVR Freaks
AVR Freaks

AVR Freaks is a well-respected and comprehensive repository of all things AVR. Registration is required to access some areas of the site, but this is well worth it for the variety of code examples and projects that are available. Highly recommended.

Circuit Cellar
Circuit Cellar

An on-line magazine describing itself as "Practical, hands-on applications and solutions for embedded-control designers". Lots of useful designs and articles, in particular the AVR 2004 Design Competition is well worth exploring.

IAR Systems
IAR Systems

IAR Systems supply compilers and software support tools for a wide range of microprocessors, including the C51, AVR and ARM. The IAR Embedded Workbench is our preferred compiler for AVR and ARM.

Keil Software
Keil Software

Keil Software also supply compilers and software support tools for a wide range of microprocessors, but are perhaps best known for their C51 product. We can recommend Hitex as UK distributors for Keil, and also as suppliers of various hardware emulation tools.

SysInternals

SysInternals Freeware is the home of a number of essential PC utility programs, including Portmon for monitoring serial port activity, and TCPView/TDImon for examining TCP and UDP connections.

Thesycon are a German company responsible for the 'USBIO' generic USB driver package, which we have succesfully adapted for use with Atmel C51 based USB microcontrollers. USBIO is distributed in the UK by Hitex.
